The College of Preachers

The College of Preachers aim to encourage informed, productive debate, and offer practical help to those engaged in preaching around our country week in, week out.

At a time when many questions are being asked about the place of preaching at the beginning of the third millennium, The College of Preachers aims to encourage informed, productive debate, and offer practical help to those engaged in preaching around our country week in, week out.

Their ethos is summed up in five words:

Biblical - seek to be true to our foundations, without evading the hard questions which study of the Scripture poses.

Thoughtful - look to nurture a kind of preaching which depends neither on old formulae nor new gimmicks, but is faithful, living and creative.

Practical - acutely aware of the pressures faced by those in a regular preaching ministry, and of the need for help through workshops, mentoring and the hearing of listeners' responses.

Ecumenical - believe that in preaching as in other areas, our denominations have much they can learn from one another.

Radical - want to probe our traditional forms of preaching, not in order to reject the wisdom and riches of our heritage but to open up new possibilities by a return to roots.
