Michael Lee

Role: Reader Member CRC Executive
Michael was born in 1946 in London. He was admitted and licensed as a Reader in 2004 in the Rochester Diocese. Although brought up with a non-conformist background, he started to attend the Anglican church in Bidborough Kent in 1981, where he was later confirmed. He says his spirituality lies somewhere between St. Augustine and "Star Trek", in that he is an avid amateur cosmologist and is strongly drawn to the debates over the relationship between science and faith.

Educated at the Skinners School in Tunbridge Wells, an area in which he has lived for over 55 years, he obtained his Batchelors and Masters degrees in Laws from the University of London. He practised as a solicitor for 20 years in a combination of civil litigation and commercial law, and also took time out to teach on the Solicitors' Final Examinations course, until 1992 when he was appointed to the District Bench in London. In 2011, he retired from the judiciary and spends his time (when not preparing sermons, or doing other ministry in the church ) in walking, DIY, astronomy and operating his "N" gauge railway layout. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and has been so for nearly 30 years. In 1984/5 he was President of the Bromley and District Law Society, when he was required to meet head-on some radical changes in the legal profession.

Noteably, for many years he was on the board of Trustees of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship (formerly the China Inland Mission) and has been involved in a number of other commitments, both Christian and secular, over the last 50 years.
