Imogen Clout

Role: Reader Member CRC Executive
I’m married to David, a solicitor, and we have three children, two of whom are still at university. We live in Sheffield and David has recently retired. We also have strong ties with Wales and spend as much time as we can in Carmarthenshire.

I grew up in south London, went to Oxford to read law, met David, got married and qualified as a solicitor. I subsequently worked as a family lawyer at a number of different practices in London. In 1991 I moved to Sheffield and continued to practise as a solicitor. After this, I moved to the University of Sheffield to teach would-be solicitors. I stayed there for 9 years and gained an M Ed in Higher Education. I left to train and work as a family mediator. During the course of my legal career I wrote a number of books and publications on family law designed for non-lawyers. About five years ago I left legal practice behind and trained as a Spiritual Accompanier.

I was brought up an Anglican and Sunday-school child. Since coming to Sheffield I and my family have been members of St Andrew’s, which is now St Andrew’s Psalter Lane Church, a local ecumenical Anglican/Methodist partnership. The coming together of the two churches to form one congregation has been a great joy and a wonderful formative experience for both the original congregations. About 18 years ago I began to explore what felt like a calling in my life. I started training as a Reader in 2003 and was licensed in 2006. In 2013 I became the Warden of Readers for the Diocese of Sheffield. I am a member of WATCH and of Inclusive Church.

I have continued to write, but now mostly in a church context. In training as a Spiritual Director I recovered the passion for drawing and painting which I had as a child and this is now an increasingly important part of my life. I love reading, singing, cooking and walking as well.
