Central Readers' Council Vacancies
The Central Readers' Council is looking for: Editor for The Reader magazine, Associate Secretary and Chair of the Editorial Committee.
EDITOR OF THE READER - To succeed Clare Amos who is leaving after eight years of distinguished service. An exciting opportunity for an Editor with flair to assume responsibility for a widely respected theological journal. The person appointed will have relevant experience in either publishing or theology (or ideally both). He or she will work from home supported by the Editorial Committee and will have responsibility for all aspects of preparation of the magazine, including the commissioning of articles, gathering of copy and liaison with the designer, advertising manager and reviews editor. Out-of-pocket expenses will be met, and an honorarium is offered.
ASSOCIATE SECRETARY - This post has been suspended for some time, but a new appointment is now sought to coincide with changes at Church House, Westminster, where the successful candidate will be based for two days per week (which can be negotiated). The post holder will report to the CRC Secretary (Dr Alan Wakely), and will have largely administrative duties. Out-of-pocket expenses will be met, and an honorarium is offered.
Applicants for either of these posts should write initially to the Central Readers’ Council, Church House, Great Smith Street, LONDON SW1P 3AZ, marking the envelope “Editor - Reader” or “Associate Secretary” as appropriate. Informal enquiries may be made in confidence by e-mail to email@example.com or by telephone between 7 and 9pm only, please to 01865 396769
CHAIR OF THE EDITORIAL COMMITTEE - This is an important post of responsibility for the publication of The Reader magazine, which now has a circulation in excess of 10,000 and was runner-up in the National Religious Magazine Awards for 2006. The person appointed will work closely with the new Editor in helping to co-ordinate all those involved in the magazine’s production. He or she sits ex-officio on the Central Readers’ Council and must therefore be a Reader. Ideally he or she will have both journalistic experience and sound theological judgement. This voluntary post is an appointment made directly by the Chair of the Council (currently the Bishop of Carlisle). He would welcome approaches from any interested Readers with relevant experience – and also any suggestions about potential candidates.
The initial approach for this role should be made in confidence by letter to the CRC London address, with the envelope clearly marked “Editorial Chair – Confidential”.
