Readings for Weddings
READINGS FOR WEDDINGS
Edited by Mark OakleyAn imaginative anthology of readings for weddings.
These include Bible readings, poems, and hymns, selected to make the service more personal and alive. Mark Oakley, a parish priest, made this collection in order to bring freshness in the place of the old chestnuts. Humour is included - to lighten an occasion that can get too solemn. Humour, he suggests, 'captures truth nicely' and he believes that 'God likes a good chuckle'. The Ogden Nash poems had me chuckling, and his I do, I will, I have sees difference among the partners as a source of strength. I like Mark Oakley's advice to choose one biblical and one secular reading (which also works well in funerals).
