Celebrate Selwyn, 1881 - 2010
An opportunity to meet to give thanks to God both for the Selwyn course and for the particular contributions made by Dr Sweet and Tony Hawkins.
The Readers’ Summer School, nowadays known affectionately as the ‘Selwyn Course’, began in 1881 and has been held at Selwyn College continuously since the end of the second world war. Following the deaths in close succession of the Revd Canon Dr John Sweet, the course principal and Tony Hawkins, the course administrator, it has become necessary to bring its long history to a close.
The intention is to gather as in recent years on the Sunday afternoon in time for Evensong in the college chapel and then to devote Monday to a series of three lectures; ending the day with a ‘Celebration Eucharist’ and a ‘Thanksgiving Dinner’, departing after breakfast on Tuesday morning.
