THE BIBLE FROM SCRATCH
A lightning tour from Genesis to Revelation Simon Jenkins Introductions to all 66 books of the Protestant canon (and a discussion of the place of the Apocrypha), overviews of the whole Bible and introductions to the major sections of both testaments. The subtitle of this volume, A lightning tour from Genesis to Revelation, gives you an accurate indication of what this book is about. It is illustrated throughout with cartoons by the author. Along with introductions to all 66 books of the Protestant canon (and a discussion of the place of the Apocrypha) there are overviews of the whole Bible and introductions to the major sections of both testaments, for example the Torah and the Gospels, potted biographies of key people such as David and the Devil and summaries of key concepts for example Miracles and The Exodus. While this book is engagingly and comically written, there is serious theology too. This is a book to give or recommend to someone who might be put off by serious theology but has the intelligence to think about key issues in the Bible. This book is an excellent, popular summary of the Bible. Reviewed by Jon Reynolds Related topics: How to Read the Bible - and study aids Categories:
