What's in a name? The Reader
WHAT'S IN A NAME? THE READER
Monmouth DioceseA look at the role of The Reader, historically, currently and possibly.
Monmouth Diocese have tackled the difficult subject of trying to pin down the role of The Reader, identifying the core and show the diversity of roles and situations undertaken. There will be much on this video that strikes a chord with Readers, but equally not everyone can do or would feel called to do everything.
Explanations, descriptions and the historical background are interspersed with comments by practicing Readers from a wide variety of experiences and roles, and Archbishop Rowan Williams is shown admitting Readers and discussing his views on Reader Ministry and ministry in general.
I suspect that this video will be of most benefit in explaining the Reader vocation to those who are enquiring, and may also find a role in provoking discussion about where Reader Ministry is going and should be going.
Copies of the video can be obtained directly from Canon Andrew Willie (Warden of Readers, Diocese of Monmouth).
